Who we are
The Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi Society was found in the United Kingdom in 1977. It is an international association represented by separate “not-for-profit” bodies, one based in Oxford, UK, and one in the San Francisco Bay Area, USA.
The Society in the UK was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation with the Charity Commission for England and Wales under No. 1179324 [/] in July 2018.

A simple Privacy statement for visitors to this website
The Muhyiddin Ibn ‘Arabi Society inevitably has some information about visitors to this website, as it does about people who contact it by email or post, attend its events, purchase publications from it, or who become its members.
Concern about the collection, usage, storage and protection of personal data has led to laws about this being enacted in the UK where the Society is registered (GDPR – General Data Protection Regulation) and in many other places, and the Society is glad to respect the safety of people interacting with it.
This page is a simple explanation of what the Society understands is most important about the information about people that it is responsible for: how it comes by it, how it uses it, how it stores it, and what happens to it.
The simplest thing to say is any personal information we do have about people is used for the purpose for which which they provide it, and we do not sell it or share it with third parties. This is illustrated in what is said below.
As far as this website is concerned
No information that identifies you personally is collected when you view pages on this website.
When you visit our site (www.ibnarabisociety.org) to read or download information, two kinds of “cookies” get created. Cookies are small text files or other storage technologies stored on your computer by your browser.
One kind of cookie is called a “session cookie”. These process certain specific information about you, such as the kind of browser used, general location data, or your (anonymised) IP address. This is part of the functionality of our website and makes it more user-friendly, efficient, and secure, allowing us, for example, to display our website in different forms according to whether you use a desktop or tablet computer, or a mobile phone. When you close your browser, these session cookies are deleted.
The other kind of cookie provides us with statistical information about the usage of the website. Visitor data is also collected through a service called Google Analytics. These records do not identify the visitor personally. We use this information to evaluate traffic patterns on our site, so that we can make it more useful to our visitors, and do not use it for any other purpose. We may report general statistics about the usage of the site at an annual general meeting, for example, but otherwise do not share such data with any third parties.
In short, a visitor to the website should not require to manage these cookies in order to protect their personal information.

Because we believe they contain material of interest to visitors to this website, there are a number of links on it to other websites. Although we take care before placing a reference to any other website here, we cannot be responsible for the content on that site, and it is your decision to go there.
Icons as links to social media
At the bottom of each web page on this site there are two icons, one of which is a link to the Society’s Facebook Group, and the other is a link to its YouTube Channel. It will not be possible view the Society’s Facebook Group without registering with Facebook, which is a choice you make.
Display of advertising material
The Society does not sell advertising, and there is no information on this website which is there because it is paid for by somebody else (an advertisement), with one possible exception – some YouTube videos are now “embedded” on the Podcasts and Videos pages. These videos will appear as if they were on this website, but are hosted on YouTube servers, and may display some advertising, as they would if they were watched on YouTube directly.
Mailing lists
Visitors to the site may ask to be put on an e-mail mailing list in order to be kept informed about Society events. This is done by means of a small module on the web page, filling in a name and email address on a small form, and clicking on a button. Your name as given and email address will be added to a list used for this purpose only. The list is securely stored, and will not be shared with anybody.
Emails sent to many people at the same time, such as those giving information about Events, or annual subscription reminders, include an “Unsubscribe” option.
The online forms by means of which people apply for membership of the Society or purchase publications from the Society include a specific question about receiving emails from the Society with information about Events. The names of people using these forms are not added to the Events mailing list unless they specifically request that.
Order forms
If you use our on-line contact forms to send a message to the Society, to become a member or renew membership, or to purchase publications, we may collect any or all of the following personal data of you according to your form entries:
First name, Last name, Postal address, Email address, Society memebership status, Student ID, Orders for publications, Your preferred payment method, Your wish to receive news from us by email, and to Make a donation.
We request this kind of information for the purpose of complying with your requests or to fulfill your orders as stated by your entries in the on-line forms. We do not use your details for any other purpose, and we never share them with third parties.
How long we retain your data
Your data processed when using our website will be deleted or blocked as soon as the purpose for its storage ceases to apply, provided the deletion of the same is not in breach of any statutory storage obligations or unless otherwise stipulated below.
